Seven Steps to Success
Hello, my name is Susan Masterson and I am a mom of a boisterous little girl, a wife, teacher, licensed psychologist, and a total research nerd - living with a chronic illness.
After many years of seemingly unrelated signs and symptoms (and just feeling lousy) with no definitive answer, I was determined to "lifestyle my way" into feeling better. I ate foods that I was sure were good for me and exercised like crazy, fully expecting to feel energetic and healthy because of it. All it did was lead to more pain, exhaustion and frustration. It didn't make sense.
At my regular annual physical in 2017 I brought a laundry list of symptoms to my doctor. Knowing I was eating well and exercising regularly, my doctor agreed that something wasn't right - "you should feel great", she said. A series of tests later, I finally received a diagnosis that explained why my efforts weren't paying off - an autoimmune disease called Sjogren's Syndrome.
It was then I realized my body won't respond like "normal" people to the "normal" lifestyle recommendations and decided to find a better way.
The research I've done in the years since has opened my eyes to how my diet and activity level were wrong, and made me take a step back at from the pressure I was placing on myself - because it was causing stress that made my symptoms worse. I want to bring you what I've learned about food, exercise, and stress so you can avoid spinning your wheels like I did.
